Voice of Kibera

The project is an initiative of Map Kibera and uses the Ushahidi platform to aggregate and map citizen reports. The platform aggregates local citizen reports from the Kibera community media and other relevant news and information. In partnership with various local organizations, the Map Kibera team (http://mapkibera.org/) launched Voice of Kibera to visualize reporting in and about Kibera (one of the largest slums in Africa). The platform acts as a social reporting platform used to enhance resilience through community-led actions. It has become a dataset about the challenges faced by Kibera’s residents, the existing services and capacity (e.g. clinics, schools, water resources), and other relevant news and information about the area. Via a simple web-based reporting system, citizens of Kibera can report incidents, from security presence, to health, education, and natural disasters.
