Safecity began in December 2012 as a response to the silence and underreporting around sexual and gender-based violence. It is a crowdsourced platform where anyone can anonymously report incidents they experience or witness. These reports are aggregated into heatmaps on webapp.safecity.in, offering visibility into patterns of harm that often go unreported in formal crime data. The platform is also available on both the Google Play and Apple App Stores, making it accessible to a wide audience.

The platform is designed for survivors, young people, community leaders, urban planners, and law enforcement, enabling them to co-create safer public and private spaces. We've documented over 100,000 reports and worked in 20+ countries with local governments, transport authorities, and police departments. The impact has included increased incident reporting, improved safety audits, gender-sensitive policing practices, and policy changes based on our data.
