Kronika is a group of technologists, journalists, and activists dedicated to defending independent media and fighting authoritarian censorship worldwide.
We design AI-powered tools to preserve vulnerable journalism, create new pathways for public access, and share our infrastructure so others can build on it.
Kronika is a civic tech project that builds AI and data-science tools to protect endangered media as a means of digital resistance to state censorship. Launched in 2022 by Bard College and PEN America In collaboration with the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine as the Russian Independent Media Archive (RIMA), the project partners with newsrooms and civil society worldwide to ensure those in power cannot repress their people’s voices with impunity because the people are equipped with the tools to fight back.
