The Civic Tech Jam, launched in 2025 as part of the Nashville Innovation Alliance’s Tech Studio initiative (itself created recently), first brought together Metro Nashville departments and Middle Tennessee university researchers to collaborate on real civic technology challenges presented during an Oct. 22, 2025 pitch session. Departments introduced issues ranging from language-access tools and public safety analytics to Narcan education and curb-use monitoring, after which the Alliance facilitates researcher–city matchmaking and invites joint teams to submit proposals for seed funding of up to $40,000 per project, with awards expected in spring 2026.
The event supports the broader mission of piloting impactful civic-tech solutions, building on earlier Alliance-funded efforts like emergency-response optimization, and people can help by joining as eligible faculty collaborators, forming teams with Metro departments, submitting proposals, or contacting the Alliance for participation and updates.
